The pin has to be tight, but it sounds as though it is way too tight. If there is any slop when you assemble it, your cam timing could suffer, but as long as you properly torque the cam bolt the pin won't break. Blow them off inside and out. Spray the inside with some WD 40 and they are ready to installed.
